Dryer vent cleaning in Salt Lake City

We clean dryer vents in homes across Salt Lake County, Utah, and the rest of the Wasatch Front. A clogged vent makes your dryer slow, and lint in the vent can catch fire. Dash Appliance Service sends a technician to your home, Monday to Friday.

Dryer vent cleaning has the same $99 trip fee as a repair visit. The technician looks at your vent and gives you a flat-rate price for the cleaning. No work starts until you say yes.

I needed a washer repaired. They had an appointment available the next day, thankfully I didnt have to wait forever. They quickly diagnosed the issue. I also had them clean out the dryer vent and they went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied with the work. I would definitely use them again.

Signs your dryer vent needs cleaning

What each one usually means, and what you can safely check before you call.

Clothes take more than one cycle to dry

A clogged vent is a common cause. The hot, wet air can’t get out of the dryer, so the clothes stay damp.

Check first: Clean the lint screen, run a normal load, and see if it dries in one cycle.

The dryer or laundry room gets very hot

When the vent is blocked, the heat stays in the dryer. The top and sides can feel hot, and the room gets warm and damp.

Check first: Make sure nothing is piled on the floor in front of the dryer or pressed against its back.

Little or no air at the outside vent

With the dryer running, the flap on the outside of the house should open and push out warm air. Weak air means lint, a crushed duct or a stuck flap is in the way.

Check first: Run the dryer and look at the outside vent. Clear snow, leaves or anything else you can safely reach that blocks the flap.

A burning smell when the dryer runs

Lint that builds up near the heat can scorch, and scorching lint can catch fire.

Check first: Turn the dryer off, and don’t use it again until the vent and the dryer have been checked.

Lint behind the dryer or around the outside vent

Lint should stay in the lint screen or blow out the outside vent. If it collects behind the dryer, a joint may have come loose or the duct may be torn. If it piles up around the outside vent, the vent may be packed full.

Check first: Look behind the dryer for a crushed or loose duct, without moving the dryer.

Can a clogged dryer vent cause a fire?

Yes. The U.S. Fire Administration found that failing to clean was the top factor behind home clothes dryer fires, at 34 percent, in its 2008 to 2010 data. Dust, fiber and lint were among the things that most often caught fire first. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says lint in the dryer or its duct can block the air and build up heat.

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

Once a year, says the National Fire Protection Association, or sooner if your clothes are taking longer than normal to dry. It says you can clean the lint out of the vent pipe yourself or have a lint removal service do it.

What kind of duct is best behind a dryer?

Rigid or semi-rigid metal. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says to swap out plastic or foil accordion duct for it. The soft kind traps lint more easily and can kink or get crushed, which cuts the airflow.

Dryer vent cleaning questions

What does dryer vent cleaning cost?

The visit has the same $99 trip fee as a repair. The technician looks at your vent and gives you a flat-rate price for the cleaning before any work starts.

Is it the dryer or the vent?

It’s hard to tell on your own. A clogged vent and a dryer that isn’t heating both leave clothes damp. Tell us what you’re seeing when you book, and the technician will find out which one it is.
