It depends on the maker. GE says its warranty begins on the date of purchase. A sales invoice, a letter from the builder or other proof you moved in shows that date. Without proof, GE goes by the date the appliance was made, which can be months before your closing. So keep the builder’s paperwork with your appliance manuals. And if the trouble is how an appliance was installed, GE’s warranty doesn’t cover it. GE says to contact the dealer or builder that installed it wrong for the repair.

Worth checking, whatever the age of your home. A range can tip forward when weight goes on its open door. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission had reports of 13 deaths from stoves, ovens and ranges tipping from 2000 through 2008. Many of them were children under 10. Voluntary safety standards require makers to supply an anti-tip bracket with every new range. The CPSC says the bracket should be fastened to the wall or floor, with the range held in it. If yours is missing, ask the range’s maker: some send one free. And never set heavy things on an open oven door.

Herriman’s free fall cleanup is over for 2026. It ran September 8 to 12 and took washers, dryers, dishwashers and ranges from residents, but not fridges or freezers. Check the city’s cleanup page for the next one. Until then, you can haul it to Trans-Jordan’s landfill in South Jordan. Its minimum charge is $15 for a non-commercial vehicle up to 10,000 pounds, counting the trailer and load. Pulling the refrigerant from a fridge or freezer adds $20 a unit.
