How we serve Sandy
Dash covers Sandy from top to bottom. Up on the east side, that means the neighborhoods on the Wasatch slopes. Down on the valley floor to the west, it means the homes around America First Field and the Shops at South Town. The technician works out what’s wrong first, then gives you a flat price for the fix, and nothing is done without your okay. We're family owned and operated. We service most major brands, like Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire and Maytag.
Water pressure in Sandy depends on where you live. The city’s west edge sits about 1,000 feet below its eastern foothills. Across its six pressure zones, the city says pressure runs from 40 to 200 PSI (pounds per square inch), and homes at the bottom of a zone can see more than 120. Whirlpool says the water feeding most of its fridges with ice and water should be 30 to 120 PSI. The questions below cover how to check your pressure and what too much of it sounds like.

Sandy questions
Answered from public sources, not Dash's own jobs.
How do I know if the water pressure in my Sandy home is too high?
Have it measured. Sandy’s Public Utilities department will help you check it if you call and ask, and a licensed plumber can test it too. Whirlpool says most of its fridges with ice and water work best at 40 to 80 PSI. If yours runs high, the city’s advice is a pressure-reducing valve inside the home. It says current plumbing codes call for one in all new homes, but an older home may not have one. About a third of Sandy’s homes were built in the 1970s. If you already have a valve, the city says to have a licensed plumber check it every 10 or 15 years, or any time the pressure seems too high.

My washer bangs or whistles when it fills. Is that Sandy’s water pressure?
It may be. GE says a bang or rattle from the pipes just as a washer stops filling is likely water hammer. When the washer’s water valve closes, the force of the water makes the pipes rattle. GE calls that a problem with the home’s plumbing and water pressure, not the washer, and recommends a plumber. A squeal or whistle while it fills may mean too much pressure. GE’s check: adjust the hot and cold valves on the washer’s water supply. If the noise dies down, your home’s water pressure is the likely cause, and a plumber can see about lowering it. If it doesn’t, the screens in the washer’s water valves may need cleaning, or the valves may need replacing.

Will Sandy’s Bulk Waste pickup take my old appliance?
Yes, from the curb, but a fridge or freezer only once its refrigerant is removed and tagged. The city’s Bulk Waste page says when the pickup runs and helps you find your day. Set the appliance out no more than 72 hours ahead, in your home’s one bulk pile, 2 feet out from the gutter and clear of the driveway. It’s for Sandy residents only, and not for apartments, condos or businesses. A fridge or freezer that still has its refrigerant can go to Trans-Jordan’s transfer station, right in Sandy. It takes the refrigerant out for $20 per appliance, plus the fee for your load.
