How we serve West Valley City
Dash fixes appliances across West Valley City, from Granger and Hunter to Redwood and Chesterfield. Your technician finds the cause and quotes a flat price. No repair starts until you agree. We're family owned and operated. We service most major brands, like Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire and Maytag.
West Valley City doesn’t supply water itself. The city lists four districts that do, and Granger-Hunter Improvement District is one of them. About a quarter of Granger-Hunter’s water comes from its own deep wells. The district says iron and manganese from those wells can turn the water yellow or brown. It often happens in spring, when the wells come on, and during construction, when pipes are turned off and on again. Iron leaves orange stains and manganese leaves black ones. That’s why the first two answers below are about laundry and dishes.

West Valley City questions
Answered from public sources, not Dash's own jobs.
My tap water came out yellow or brown. Should I hold off on laundry?
Yes, wait until it runs clear. If Granger-Hunter supplies your home, it asks you to let it know when this happens. It says flushing your lines, which means running your taps, for 15 to 30 minutes usually clears the water. If another district supplies you, call the one on your water bill. Washing in it can stain clothes. Samsung says yellow, orange or red stains on laundry can come from iron or manganese in the water. It names the home’s water supply as the most common cause. It says rust-like stains inside the drum are likely from the water too, and should clean off easily if treated right away. Since 2023, the district’s Rushton plant has removed iron and manganese from three of its wells, for customers east of Bangerter Highway.

My dishes come out with a yellow or brown film. Is the dishwasher to blame?
Probably not. GE says yellow or brown stains on dishes aren’t typically caused by the dishwasher. An overall yellow or brown film can come from iron in the water, and glasses can take on a yellow or brown tint. GE calls an iron filter on the water supply line the only permanent fix. For gray or brown stains inside the dishwasher, it suggests citric acid crystals. Put three to four ounces in the detergent cup and run a normal cycle. Then run another cycle with detergent and no crystals, to rinse. The stains may come back, because the cause is the water.

Can I put an old washer or fridge out for the city’s bulky waste pickup?
The washer, yes. The fridge, only with a tag. Bulky waste pickup comes with West Valley City’s garbage service once a month. Set the item near the curb no more than a day ahead, by 7 a.m. on pickup day, and at least 5 feet from your garbage cans. A fridge or freezer holds Freon, the coolant sealed inside. The city won’t take one unless a tag from an authorized private company says the Freon has been safely removed. Without a tag, drive it to the county landfill yourself. The landfill charges $20 for each Freon appliance.
